L20-Powered 1970 Datsun 510 5-SpeedPosted by WindingRoad about 2 months, 2 weeks ago
This 1970 Datsun 510 is a two-door sedan that was acquired by the seller approximately eight years ago. A bare-metal repaint was subsequently completed in 2012, and the interior was refreshed with aftermarket racing-style seats, a new carpet kit, and a replacement headliner. The 2.0-liter L20B inline-four features a U67 cylinder head, dual Mikuni carburetors, and short tube headers, and shifting is through a five-speed manual transmission from a 280ZX. Additional modifications include a limited-slip differential, a lowered suspension with KYB shocks, 15″ 280ZX wheels, a roll bar, and an aftermarket stereo. This 510 is now being offered with refurbishment photos and a British Columbia registration.
The body was disassembled and stripped to bare metal before being repainted in white in 2011. BRE-style racing stripes have been applied to the sides of the front fenders and doors, and the bumpers were refinished in black. The seller notes the presence of a dent on the roof and paint imperfections above the driver’s-side taillight.
Cast-spoke 15” wheels from a 280ZX are wrapped in Pirelli P700-z tires measuring 195/50. The suspension has reportedly been modified with shortened 510 struts up front and cut springs with KYB shocks in the rear. The brakes were reportedly serviced in the last month, and the bushings and ball joints have been reportedly replaced as well.
The interior features black leather aftermarket racing-style seats with blue stitching and perforated centers, as well as a gray suede-like dash pad and door panels. A bolt-in roll bar has been added, along with a black loop carpet kit, a replacement headliner, a Pioneer head unit, and a Sparco shift knob. The seller reports that the seals have been replaced.
A four-spoke Grant GT steering wheel frames a white 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with 6,500-rpm redline. The six-digit odometer shows just over 175k kilometers (~108k miles), approximately 20k of which have been added by the seller.
The 2.0-liter L20B inline-four has reportedly been modified with a U67 cylinder head, a mild camshaft, dual Mikuni 44 carburetors, and electronic ignition. A short tube header feeds an aftermarket two-inch exhaust, and a tune-up was recently completed per the seller. The seller has also provided two drive-by videos which are viewable here and here.
The five-speed manual transmission was reportedly sourced from a 280ZX and sends power to the rear wheels through an R160 limited-slip differential with a 4.44 final drive ratio.
Additional photos of the car in various stages of the repainting process are viewable in the gallery below, and a walk-around and cold start video is viewable below.
