2009 Ford Mustang GT Pikes Peak Hillclimb Car

This was my previous eBay Motors sponsored pro-car from the 2012 Formula Drift Championship. When I was done with drifting, I started converting it to a road-race setup to tackle Pikes Peak Mountain.

I have raced this Mustang up Pikes Peak Mountain 3 times. 2015, 2016, and 2018. In 2015, I was rained out, so only got to go 1/3 of the way up the mountain in the wet, so just cruised up since it wasn’t worth the risk. 2016 looked great as I qualified 5th out of 25 cars in Time Attack 1 and 12th overall. Unfortunately, my water temp was too high after only about ½ way up the mountain, so limped it home (no damage to the engine). 2018 would be a much better experience as we learned from the previous two years and addressed the cooling issues with a completely  redesigned and upgraded system. My run in 2018 was more satisfactory and representative of what the car could do. I still had issues, but got by with a final time 10:17. My goal was of course a sub-10 minute run. That 10:17 was with severely fading brakes (after only ½ up the mountain). My turbo manifold decided to peel open like a banana leaving me with no boost with 1 mile to go! I feel very confident in saying this is a sub 10 minute Pikes Peak Hill Climb car! Everything else on the car worked great! Water temp never went over 225! The 12-inch ducting, extended air intact inlets and snow performance water sprays did the trick! I also converted the car to a wide body allowing me to run much wider tires. I also added front dive planes and an AJ Hartman underbody rear diffuser.

Ford Racing's 5.0L Mustang "Aluminator" crate engine with a modern 5.0L 32-valve DOHC V-8 that uses advanced features like Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) to deliver big power. Unlike the factory 5.0L engine, the "Aluminator" is built with low compression forged pistons and H-beam connecting rods to meet the demands of forced induction.

Cortex Watts Link and Torque Arm

The watts link replaces the panhard bar in a few simple bolt-on steps for ease of DIY installation.

A watts linkage locates the rear axle laterally, meaning it prevents relative sideways motion between the axle and body of the car.
