This Thunder Ranch 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder replica is built on a tube chassis and finished in a Persian Sand with Oxblood taillight spears and a tan interior. The car wears #541 as a tribute to the class-winning Spyder (550-15) of the 1955 Mille Miglia, and features include a fiberglass body, disc brakes, Bilstein front shocks, and a 4-speed transaxle. A 2,160cc Type 1 flat-four from Scat Enterprises was installed approximately 500 miles ago, and recent service is said to have consisted of a new belt, battery, and starter, as well as a fluid change and valve adjustment. Approximately 1k kilometers have been added by the seller during his five years of ownership. This Spyder replica is registered through California SB-100 and is now being offered with records and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The fiberglass bodywork wears a full-width plexiglass windscreen and a removable headrest fairing for the driver. A polished filler cap is centered in the hood, and the engine cover is secured with a pair of leather straps. Gold ‘Spyder’ badges are present on each front fender, along with Mille Miglia vinyl decals.
The sale includes a chocolate brown canvas tonneau cover, which can be viewed in the gallery below. 15” wide-five wheels are powder coated grey and wrapped in a set of classic Michelin tires from Coker. Braking is managed by four-wheel disc brakes hidden behind a set of aluminum covers. Bilstein shocks are fitted up front, while a set of adjustable Gabriel air shocks are utilized for the rear. Curb weight is reported to be approximately 1,300 lbs.
Speedster-style seats are trimmed in tan over a matching carpet, and a set of Crow Racing lap belts are fitted for each occupant.
Period-style instrumentation is fronted by a banjo steering wheel. 14,900 kilometers (~9k miles) are shown on the odometer. Approximately 1k miles have been driven by the seller during his five years of ownership.
A 2,160cc Type 1 flat-four was sourced from SCAT Enterprises and installed approximately 1k miles ago. The engine is mated to a 4-speed VW transaxle and comes equipped with dual 44IDF carburetors, extended oil sump, and a full-flow oil filter. Recent maintenance is said to have included a tune up, valve adjustment, and an oil change, along with the installation of a new belt, battery, and starter.
A folder with build specifications and maintenance records is included with the sale.
