1959 Porsche 356 Convertible DPosted by bradiger about 5 years, 3 months ago
Location: Monterey, California
This 1959 Porsche 356 Convertible D Vintage Race Car is in Ruby Red with Black.
The Convertible D was introduced in August 1958, replacing the Speedster. It still had only two seats and a dash with no glovebox, as well as the chrome side accents that had previously differentiated the Speedster. Bodies for the just over 1300 Convertible Ds were hand-built by the coachbuilder Drauz in Helbronn. Thus the 'D' moniker.
A Black plate California car from new. Originally owned by a gentleman out of San Jose, California. In 1963 the car changed hands to it's most recent owner in Sunnyvale, CA and that is where the car has spent the majority of it's life.
Upgraded to race spec's shortly after 1963. A documented race car from that point forward. Documentation includes race articles, photographs and race results.
Odometer shows 24k miles and that is believed to be original.
Mechanically strong. Less than 4,000 miles on a Tim Goodrich motor. Approx 120 HP. Solex carbs with external oil cooler fabricated into the roll bar.
Cosmetics on the car show very well for a vintage racer. The paint is consistent with that of older paint.
The interior has it's correct carpets and rubber mats. Original dash and door panels. Competition seats, Moto Lita Steeiring wheel, roll bar and race belts installed.
A documented vintage racer, Log Book include, that is event eligible from low key vintage SCCA weekends to the Monterey Historics (which the car last participated in 1994).
